Aging Upper Eyelid Surgery in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco
You noticed the reflection in the mirror is aging. Signs of aging around your eyes are becoming more noticeable and can’t be hidden underneath makeup. Sagging, wrinkled, or drooping upper eyelids can make you look tired and older than you feel, but an upper blepharoplasty can restore a youthful, rejuvenated look. This procedure targets the excess skin and fat that cause eyelids to droop, helping you achieve a more refreshed and alert appearance.
Many factors contribute to sagging eyelids, such as aging, genetics, and weakened muscles around the eye area. Ptosis (drooping caused by weak eye muscles) may also play a role, necessitating additional techniques for optimal results. Complementary to an upper eyelid surgery, a brow lift might be recommended to enhance your overall youthful look.
Blepharoplasty can have practical benefits too. For some people, drooping upper lids can obstruct vision, and upper eyelid surgery can help clear that up, offering both aesthetic and functional improvements.
At WAVE Plastic Surgery, we specialize in upper blepharoplasty and understand the delicate nature of facial anatomy. With surgery centers in the Bay Area and Southern California, our skilled surgeons will perform the procedure to your needs, helping you achieve natural, refreshed results. Client Testimonials
This was my first ever procedure (upper eyelid surgery). Dr. Ben Lee was incredibly understanding and patient for my nitpicking and anxiety during the entire process. He let me express my needs and wants and made me feel extremely comfortable. There was only honesty and encouragement for anything I had questions about. I had an amazing consultant who I now consider as a friend, caring nurses that made checked up on me as much as they could. I wouldn’t have gone to any other surgeon!
Dr. Lee was very personable, took the time to really study my case, and gave me specific and knowledgeable recommendations. My final product was far better than I ever could have imagined. I highly recommend his services!
I went last Saturday for double eyelid and up-lift eyes surgeries. It was not as pain as I thought, the total surgery time around 45 mins to 1 hr. It's been three days already, and I felt recovery very well. Thank you Dr. Lee. I will recommend this place if anyone wants to do plastic surgery.
I came in for a double eyelid surgery and I absolutely loved it. I have a very low pain tolerance but the IV fluids and local anesthesia made the surgery very tolerable. The staff was super friendly and cool! I loved how they answered numerous questions I had which calmed my nerves! 10/10 would recommend!
Since the first time I came to Wave, doctors and staff all gave me a warm welcome. I did my double eyelid surgery with Dr. Peter Lee. which was the best decision I ever made. My eyes were recovering slower than others. During that time I was a little concerned. But Dr. Lee took really care of me. After six months, my results actually turn out really good. Big thanks to Dr. Lee. Definitely will recommend Wave to my friends and family.
I have an endoscopic, face lift, and neck liposuction done on October 30, 2015 by Doctor Peter Lee at Wave plastic surgery. Dr. Lee did the great job. My friends and co-worker were amazed by his professional job. Dr. Lee is a very quiet and humble doctor. He is very honest and told me that face lift would have permanent scars. The surgery will take months to get heal. He wouldn’t lie to me or try to sell me anything. Overall, he knew what he was doing. I didn’t have much swollen or bruises because I am healthy. I am really enjoy the result. Hopefully, it will last ten years or longer.

Who is a Good Candidate for Upper Eyelid Surgery?
Good candidates for upper blepharoplasty should be in general good health, nonsmokers, and without serious eye conditions. An upper blepharoplasty can help reverse the signs of aging and restore a rejuvenated appearance to your eyelids.
Some of these changes include:
- Excess loose eyelid skin
- Droopy, saggy eyelids
- Poorly defined double eyelid crease
- Difficulty putting on makeup without smudging
Cosmetic upper blepharoplasty is considered an elective surgery to improve the overall aesthetic appearance of the eye. In some cases, a functional upper blepharoplasty may be medically necessary to improve the function of the eye, addressing any ocular issues, such as removal of excess skin, that may be impairing vision. As functional blepharoplasty addresses medical concerns and is often recommended by healthcare professionals, it may be covered by insurance. It’s best to check with your specific provider.
Upper Blepharoplasty Procedure
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and light sedation and generally takes about one hour to complete. During the procedure, you will remain comfortable, but will be awake enough for our surgeons to evaluate your eyelids in the open and closed position to ensure symmetry and desired contour.
An incision is made within the natural crease of the upper eyelid to minimize scarring. Excess skin and fat are removed, and inner eye muscles can be tightened, if necessary, to improve the contour of the eyelids. Very fine sutures are used to meticulously close the incisions and are removed in approximately one week.
Upper Eyelid Surgery Recovery
In general, upper blepharoplasty surgery is well tolerated. Most patients have minimal discomfort in the treatment area, which can be alleviated by taking mild over-the-counter pain medication. Expect some swelling and bruising to occur after surgery. Keep in mind it can be minimized with proper rest, cool compresses, keeping your head elevated, and avoiding salty foods. Recovery time varies based on individual overall health and the specific treatment performed. The average recovery period ranges from 10-14 days.
Upper Eyelid Surgery Results
After an upper blepharoplasty, the eyelids will appear smoother with a more defined upper eyelid contour. Results will continue to improve over time as the swelling resolves.
The longevity of the results varies with each individual, but on average can be around 7-10 years. The process of aging does not cease after surgery, so additional touch-up surgery may be needed in the future to maintain your upper blepharoplasty results.
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?
The cost of upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) in San Francisco and Southern California can vary depending on factors like the complexity of your procedure, the surgeon’s expertise, and location. Typically, prices range from $3,000 to $7,000, covering the surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, facility costs, and post-operative care.
While most blepharoplasty procedures are cosmetic and not covered by insurance, there are cases where insurance may help. If your drooping eyelids are impacting your vision, the procedure could be deemed medically necessary. It’s a good idea to check with both your insurance provider and surgeon to understand what’s covered and what out-of-pocket expenses you might expect.
If you’re considering the procedure, this could be your moment to invest in a refreshed, confident appearance. Whether you’re in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, or Orange County, take the next step and see how upper blepharoplasty can make a difference!
