What is thread lifting and how does it work?
Although first developed in the 1980s, face threading has since evolved with new advances in technology and quality of threads, leading to a resurgence in popularity as a minimally invasive rejuvenation procedure. The Procedure
Thread Lifting is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia. The face is cleansed and the provider will design the placement of threads based on your individual needs.
Some local anesthesia is given to numb the area being treated, ensuring maximal comfort during the procedure. Our medical team will take great care to prevent any pain and ensure that your health and comfort are always monitored.
The threads are precisely inserted under the skin and barbs on the threads fully engage with surrounding tissue to provide a maximal lifting effect. The threads are then cut at the insertion point and will remain under the skin for up to 6 months. Slowly dissolving over time, the threads stimulate collagen formation that helps maintain the structure and contour effects for 1-2 years.
The Results
After the procedure, patients will immediately see improved contour and lifting effects. Results typically last about 12-18 months, depending on the level of laxity, skin type, and area treated. Aging is a complex, multiplanar phenomenon, one that involves structural and volume changes at the skeletal, soft tissue, and skin level.
For this reason, different treatments can be used to address specific issues that collectively enhance and optimize results. Studies have shown thread lifting combined with other rejuvenation procedures, both nonsurgical or surgical, lead to better outcomes and higher patient satisfaction rates.
The Recovery
Patients tolerate thread lifting well. Mild swelling and bruising may occur after the procedure that should resolve within 3-5 days. Cool compresses and head elevation when sleeping can help minimize swelling during recovery.
Other potential side effects include mild discomfort, uneven contour, and rarely suture granuloma which may need revision. Patients should avoid dental procedures for one month to avoid wide mouth opening or stretching.
