Sculptra in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Francisco
Sculptra is a revolutionary facial injectable designed to stimulate and harness your body’s own reparative and regenerative processes to restore volume, softness, and elasticity to the face. The main ingredient in Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic injectable compound that has been widely used in dissolvable sutures and soft tissue implants for decades.
What Does Sculptra Do?
Part of the beauty of treatment with Sculptra is that its effects unfold naturally and gradually over time. Sculptra is especially helpful in treating wrinkles along the nasolabial fold (smile lines), wrinkles that frame the mouth (marionette lines), and chin wrinkles, but, in fact, it can be used to add volume over much of the area of the entire face.
How Long Does Sculptra Take?
A full course treatment of Sculptra typically involves three to four injection sessions with three-week to six-week intervals between each session. The aesthetic improvement resulting from treatment with Sculptra can last up to two years.
How Does Sculptra Work?
The injection of Sculptra into the deep dermis of the skin of the face triggers an inflammatory reaction that causes an upregulation of the activity of fibroblasts in the skin In this way, Sculptra stimulates the replacement of the skin’s collagen that has declined with age, and gradually restores volume in areas of the skin that have developed wrinkles and deeper folds. With time the poly-L-lactic acid particles themselves are metabolized to carbon dioxide and water, and expelled through the respiratory system so that all that remains is the new collagen whose production Sculptra has triggered.
The deep dermal layer is responsible for the majority of the strength and structural support of the skin. The protein that is the major component of this structural support is collagen. Fibroblasts are cells that speed wound healing and provide the structural framework of the skin by producing collagen. Collagen is the major structural protein in the skin, responsible for its thickness, strength, and shape. In youth, collagen makes up 80% of the volume of the skin, but after the age of 25, we lose about 1% of our total volume of collagen each successive year, leading to increased skin laxity and visible wrinkles and skin folds.
