Xeomin vs Dysport

Xeomin vs Dysport: What’s the Difference?

As cosmetic procedures become more popular, people are looking for more ways to maintain their youth and feel confident in their skin. There are the obvious procedures you can save up for, but there are also minimally invasive treatments that won’t break the bank.

One of the most common options for maintaining a youthful appearance is wrinkle relaxers (neuromodulators). With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to find the one that works for you. That’s why we’re going to look at Xeomin vs Dysport and compare the two.

Let’s get started.

What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?

It happens to everyone; as we get older, fine lines and wrinkles start becoming more noticeable. It occurs mainly around the eyes and forehead at first, and we may only see them when we frown or laugh. As we age, those lines become more obvious.

Wrinkles occur because you’re living your life, and those repeated facial movements form creases or lines in the skin. Although it’s a normal part of life, you may not love having wrinkles. Wrinkle relaxers can reduce the appearance of those fine lines, giving you a smoother complexion.

The most common areas include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Dimpled chin
  • Eyebrow lift

Botox vs Xeomin vs Dysport

Now that we’ve really piqued your interest, it’s time to look at the solutions that will eliminate stubborn fine lines and wrinkles. The three most popular options on the market are Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport.

These three can’t be used interchangeably because they are dosed and injected differently.

However, all of them are made of botulinum toxin type A. Both Botox and Dysport contain protein that is made of lactose or egg. This protein helps deliver the neurotoxin to the area that you want to change.

That’s why Dysport and Botox are both considered heavier. They have the proteins and the benefit of enabling the neurotoxin substance. Xeomin doesn’t have that accessory protein.

It’s purely botulinum toxin. What that means is there is less risk of a patient having an allergic reaction since there is no additional protein additive.

Dysport is known to have better distribution underneath the skin, so it is best for fine lines instead of deep wrinkles. With that said, it also requires more units per dosage but is less costly than Botox.

You’re likely to see the results of Dysport in 3-5 days, which is faster than the competitors. This makes it ideal for patients looking for quick results.

If you’re looking to correct a deeper crease or wrinkle, you’ll want to go with Xeomin or Botox. Both of these take about 1-2 weeks for the full treatment to take hold. They also last longer than Dysport.

Benefits of Xeomin

Consider Xeomin, the baby sibling of neuromodulators. It was manufactured by Merz and approved by the FDA in 2011.

You’ll love Xeomin because it is just as capable as its competitors to smooth out your frustrating wrinkles and fine lines without waiting too long for the results. The main difference, as mentioned previously, is that Xeomin is a “naked” neurotoxin.

This means it doesn’t require refrigeration, so the storage and distribution are different from Dysport. That may not matter much to you, but you should know that it will take a little bit longer than the others to see results.

Let’s take a look at some of the Xeomin benefits:

  • You’re less likely to experience an allergic reaction since there are no added proteins
  • The treatment time is short, and it has a fast recovery time
  • It smoothes the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, in the forehead, and between the eyebrows
  • It blocks the signal from the nerve to muscles, and this prevents further wrinkling

Benefits of Dysport

Dysport was manufactured by Medicis and approved by the FDA in 2009. If Xeomin is the baby sibling, Dysport is the middle child of the neuromodulator family (Botox would be the oldest sibling.)

Dysport has the same wrinkle-reducing abilities as Botox and the same efficiency, side effects, and duration of results. You might experience swelling, a headache, and some slight bruising.

These are normal side effects for all of the neuromodulators.

What makes Dysport stand out is that it is diluted differently than Botox. This means you will need more Dysport to achieve the same results as Botox. With that said, Dysport tends to be less expensive.

Essentially, the two end up evening themselves out.

Dysport also tends to work faster than Botox and can spread to a larger area thanks to smaller molecules’ composition.

What are the other Dysport benefits? Let’s take a look:

  • Drastically reduces Glabellar lines (the “11” lines on your forehead)
  • Smoothes fine lines and wrinkles
  • Prevents new wrinkles from forming
  • Natural and immediate results
  • Can treat excessive sweating

How Long Do They Last?

If you’re spending your hard-earned cash to enhance your appearance, you want to make sure that it will last.

All three of the mentioned wrinkle relaxers can last from 3-6 months per treatment. The final result varies from patient to patient.

It’s important to note that this isn’t a permanent solution. Botox wears off. As muscle action returns, you’ll see the wrinkles and fine lines reappear. That’s when it’s time to book your next appointment.

Wrinkle Prevention

Everyone should celebrate getting older. It’s an immense privilege. It means you can continue to pursue your goals and enjoy life.

You don’t need to sacrifice your appearance as you age. There are plenty of options to keep your skin looking youthful.

Comparing Xeomin vs Dysport will give you a better idea of which treatment is best for you and your goals. Get ready to revitalize your skin and feel a new wave of confidence.
